Vietnam eyes thermo-electric plant

HANOI - Vietnam has plans for a thermo-electric plant in central Quang Binh province. The Electricity of Vietnam Corp. and the Ha Thanh Securities Co. announced plans to work together to build a 2,400 megawatt thermo-electric plant in central Quang Binh province. The estimated cost of the plant is $2.4 billion but it is expected to boost the local economy and draw investment. The two companies also plan to construct a coal port in the area to feed the plant.

The Viet Nam Oil and Gas Group, PetroVietnam, along with the Tunisian National Oil Co. have also signed a deal, this one to explore crude oil and gas in Tunisia. The two affiliates of PetroVietnam that took part in the signing were PetroVietnam Exploration and Production Co., and Vietsovpetro, a joint venture between Vietnam and Russia. Under the contract, the consortium will explore oil and gas at two locations in Tunisia. PVEP Deputy Director Nguyen Quoc Thap said the company planned to set up the Oil and Gas Exploration and Exploitation Co. in Tunisia. Vietnamese experts will be sent to Tunisia and Tunisian experts will also be recruited for the project.
