Yahoo! launches first cyber cafe in Vietnam

HO CHI MINH CITY - Yahoo! Vietnam on Tuesday announced a new internet coffee shop initiative to serve the needs of people and businesses in the country and to further capitalize on the growing market. The opening of its first Internet coffee shop in HCMC is considered as the next step of Yahoo! to penetrate deeper into Vietnam after the U.S.-based Internet service provider launched Yahoo! Hoi va Dap in the country in late August.

With the opening of the first coffee shop at 217 Nguyen Van Cu Street, District 5, Yahoo! Vietnam hopes to expand the usage of Internet-based services as well as to increase the customer base and profitability for local cyber cafe owners. Following the first, Yahoo! will open ten more cafes in HCMC in the coming time and spread its presence to Hanoi. Ngo Phuc Ngoc Tan, owner of the first Yahoo! Coffee, said that the cooperation with Yahoo! would help his coffee shop earn higher profit.

Tom Sipple, managing director of Yahoo! Southeast Asia, told the Daily on his recent visit that Yahoo! wanted to gain its foothold in the growing Internet market in Vietnam by launching more added value services in the country. Yahoo! says that the country now has over 15 million people online, or an Internet penetration rate of 18%. It forecast the number of users will double to 30 million in 2010.
