Vietnam says no power cuts until June

There will be no large-scale electricity cuts until late June if nothing went wrong, Vietnam’s National Load Dispatch Center has promised. Ngo Son Hai, the center’s vice head, said two newly commissioned power plants, Cao Ngan and Ca Mau, respectively in the northern mountains and Mekong Delta, were supplying to the national grid, ensuring stable supply. Any load shedding would be announced in advance.

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), the state monopoly power supplier, would guarantee uninterrupted supply during the forthcoming high school graduation and college entrance exams. But he said EVN faced several difficulties like lower water levels at reservoirs and maintenance work at several power plants. The massive power cut in recent days in the north had been caused by a turbine breaking down at the Pha Lai thermal plant in Hai Duong province besides rising demand.
