Vietnam, France seek further technological cooperation

Vietnamese and French scholars, experts and those who work in industries gathered in Ho Chi Minh City on September 27 to work on bilateral technology cooperation. At the first InnoVietnam symposium, the participants discussed three technological areas which are considered key pillars for the development of the Southeast Asian country, including information technology and multi media, energy and environment and material and construction technology.

Experts from the two countries also drew up a blueprint to simplify investment procedures, fortify cooperation between universities and businesses, develop new sources of energy, ensure sustainable development of the environment and water sources, forecast natural disasters and maintain dyke systems. Addressing the conference, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan and Vice President of the Rhone-Alpes region, Roger Fougeres, said that an expansion of programmes between the two countries on urban planning and expert training included would get underway soon.

The conference was co-hosted by the National Polytechnique Institute of Grenoble of France (INPG), the Atomic Energy Committee and the Viet Nam-France Cooperation Research Centre. The INPG has hooked up with universities of Vietnam in scientific and technological training over the past 30 years. Their cooperative initiatives have helped train more than 180 PhD graduators and 170 engineers for Vietnam with over 5 million euros in funding provided by the French government.
