Documentary on post-war Vietnam screened in France

“Les Âmes Errantes”, (Wandering Soul) a documentary film on post-war Vietnam directed by French stage-manager, Boris Lojkine, was screened in Paris , France , from January 24-31. “Les Âmes Errantes”, is a film about the Vietnam war on the other side, without bombs and fires. 30 years after the war, the remains of hundreds of soldiers who laid down their life in the battlefield have not yet been found so they are wandering souls.

The film, the second of its kind directed by Lojkine, talks about the struggles of two Vietnamese war veterans, namely Tho and Doan, in their search for the remains of their comrades who died during the war. The film was on screen at Espace Saint Michel Cinema from January 24-13, five to six times per day. The cinema was always full of audiences. Audiences, particularly the French, were very moved with the story of Tiep, wife of martyr Tong Ngoc Luu who trecked from Ha Bac to Quang Tri to search for her husband’s remains. Her husband left her for the battlefield when she was 20.

Lijkine said he had made the film for four years. His first film about Vietnam war named ‘The Remaining People’ produced in 2001 featuring Vietnamese war veterans. Lojkine, who was working in Vietnam between 1993 and 1994 as a philosophy lecturer, plans to make another film on Vietnam ’s Central Highlands.
