Vietnam election watchdog opens website for May polls

Vietnam’s Election Council launched a website Saturday to carry news and information about May’s National Assembly (NA) elections. Deputy chairman of the NA Office and member of the council’s information committee, Nguyen Sy Dung, said the website would also carry lists and personal information about candidates, as well as results and statistics from the election.

The website, www.baucukhoa12.quochoi.vn, will, in fact, have virtually everything concerning the house, including provisions from the Law on National Assembly Elections and other documents, the election schedule, slogans, photos and movie trailers relating to the NA and the election itself, activities of organizing teams, and media reports on the election. On the first day of its existence the site scored some 33,000 hits. The Government Office recently announced that Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Standing Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung would be its two candidates for the election.

The information committee is set to launch election-related activities this month including creation of posters and slogans, a music contest, and training of speakers.
