Groups noted for Internet growth contributions in Vietnam

HANOI - Ten individuals and three companies have been voted as most instrumental to the internets growth since its introduction in Viet Nam 10 years ago. Votes for the winners from the Viet Nam Post newspaper and the Viet Nam ICT Press Club were selected from a list of 20 candidates, including internet experts, managers, policy makers, network security experts, representatives of mass media and directors of internet companies.

Former Minister Do Trung Ta and former Deputy Minister Mai Liem Truc of the Information and Telecommunications ministry, were among the final winners. Former Minister Dang Huu and former Deputy Minister Chu Hao of the Science and Technology Ministry, were also included. Four business executives were chosen, including Truong Gia Binh, general director of the Corporation of Financing and Promoting Technology (FPT), Vu Hoang Lien, general director of the Viet Nam Datacommunications Company (VDC), Tran Ba Thai, director of Netnam, and Truong Dinh Anh, director of FPT Telecom. The two remaining individuals were former Deputy Primer Minister Nguyen Khanh and former president of the Viet Nam Information and Technology Association, Nguyen Quang A.

The Viet Nam Datacommunications Company was chosen as the top company with the biggest contribution to the internet, following FPT Telecom and Viettel. The three companies hold 98 per cent of the market share for wide-band internet service in Viet Nam.
