Vietnam may waive visa for Vietnamese with foreign passports

The Vietnamese government is considering waiving entry visas for people of Vietnamese origin naturalized elsewhere who hold only foreign passports. Vietnam News Agency reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ National Committee for Overseas Vietnamese expects to complete formalities for the exemption by the end of this year’s second quarter.

The committee has said it will also finalize legal documents to facilitate the purchase of houses and land in Vietnam by overseas Vietnamese. Currently they are only allowed to buy land and houses under strict conditions. Approximately 670,000 Vietnamese expatriates visited Vietnam last year. Around 150,000 overseas Vietnamese poured into Vietnam for the recently concluded Tet Lunar New Year festival, the biggest holiday in Vietnam.
