Vietnam Expo 2007 to host 700 pavilions
HANOI - Vietnam Expo 2007, the largest international trade fair in Vietnam, is expected to have 700 pavilions for Vietnam and foreign countries, according to the Vietnam Expo organisation board.
This year Vietnam Expo is designed to have specific areas for each sector, including key export sectors such as wooden products, handicrafts, agricultural products, foods, beverages, garment and textile, footwear, electricity and electronics, information technology, machines, industrial equipment and construction materials. This design plan will make it easier for partners to meet during the fair.
The organisation board said that, so far, Vietnamese enterprises have registered to open 250 pavillions and enterprises from 16 nations and territories have registered to show products at 276 pavillions.
Deputy Minister of Trade Luong Van Tu said the Ministry of Trade will develop Vietnam Expo further in coming years.
During Vietnam Expo, Vietnamese enterprises have an advantage in knowing domestic demand better than foreign enterprises. The foreign enterprises have joined the trade fair to find out about import opportunities, according to the organisation board.
Vietnam's membership in the World Trade Organisation has created opportunities and challenges for Vietnamese enterprises, said Nguyen Khac Luan, general director of Vietnam National Trade Fair and Advertising Company (Vinexad) and deputy head of Vietnam Expo 2007 organisation board.
The enterprises could meet their business partners at Vietnam's trade fair instead of having to join foreign exhibitions and trade fairs to get export contracts, as before, he said. Also, State owned enterprises have often carried out most import and export activities but now private enterprises are increasingly joining in.
Vietnam Expo is the largest trade event of the Ministry of Trade every year. The event was organised by the Trade Promotion Agency and Vinexad 16 years ago.
The Vietnam Expo 2006 attracted 415 Vietnamese and foreign enterprises to 659 pavilions on a total area of 20,000sq.m. The trade fair attracted 38,000 business men and 42,000 people from 21 nations and territories, according to statistics of Vietnam Expo 2006 organisation board. Some 1,306 contracts and co-operation agreements were signed among enterprises during the trade fair, including 880 contracts and co-operation agreements between Vietnamese enterprises.
Most participants in the Expo last year have pledged to return this year.
