Vietnam cinema will be popularised in Paris

“There will be a panorama of Vietnamese cinema in Paris, France in the near future with the aim at popularising Vietnamese cinema to French public,” affirmed by President of French Cinematography Association, famous film director and producer during a press conference in Hanoi yesterday ahead the opening of the first ever Panorama of French Cinema with the screening of the film ‘Priceless’ (Hors de Prix) at Megastar Cineplex, Hanoi last night.

Director Costa Gavras said that all 11 films shown this time are ones of the best films of French cinematography such as ‘La Mome’ (The Little Girl), ‘Nos Jours Heureux’ (Our Happy Days), ‘Indigenes’ (Native People), ‘Aurore’ , ‘Bamako’, ‘Les Couperets’ (Guillotine), ‘Pars Vite et Reviens Tard’ (Go Away at Once), ‘Agents Secret’ (Special Mission Unit) ‘Les Filles du Botaniste’ (The Botanist's Two Daughters) and ‘Je Deteste Les Enfants Des Autres (I Hate Others’ Children). Films feature a variety of genres including detective, comedy, tragedy, legend and memoirs.

“ Through the programme, we want to receive feedback of Vietnamese audiences. They are may be positive or negative, but from that, we know Vietnamese people’s taste which help us make progress in co-operation in the field with Vietnam in the future,” Costa Gavras said.

President of French Cinematography Association also expressed his hope about the further co-operation between the two countries’ cinema, particularly after the French film festival in Vietnam. He said: “I hope more agreements will be signed by the two sides and following this, there will be more French film makers coming to Vietnam and vice versa.” He also shared his experience in the development of film industry with Vietnamese people. He held that “ To develop one’s cinematography, it should come from a policy decision. In France, in the time of General De Gaulle, French President decided to preserve the home cinema and from that, together with efforts by insiders, French cinema is not only preserved but also has developed more and got certain results.”

“I think that Vietnam should also make a policy decision to develop its film industry. Furthermore, when facing with a crisis, such as the overwhelming of the US films in the country, all the films makers should discuss together to find out the way for the development of the domestic films.”

Panorama of French Cinematography also has the presence of famous film directors such as Regis Wargnier, Pierre Salvadori, Frederic Schoendoerffer, Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache and particularly Vietnamese origin actress Pham Linh Dan who acted in the famous film ‘Indochina’ by Regis Wargnier . Cesar winner of 2006 Linh Dan will introduce the film ‘Pars Vite et Reviens Tard’ in which she acted as a young girl going to get married. Film is on show at Megastar Cineplex, 191 Ba Trieu from October 11 – 13, at the Vietnam Cinematography Association’s headquarter, 51 Tran Hung Dao street, Hanoi from October 14-18 and Ho Chi Minh City at Galaxy cinema from October 13-15.
