Vietnam issues list of enterprises where strikes are banned

HANOI - The Vietnamese government said Tuesday that Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has issued a list of enterprises at which workers won't be allowed to strike. The government said on its Web site that workers can't strike at enterprises that supply services or products vital to the public, such as at power stations, transmission grids, railway stations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, key airports, post offices, forestry enterprises, telecommunications and irrigation facilities. Vietnam doesn't publicize comprehensive data the total number of strikes, but according to state media, there were more than 1,000 last year.

Vietnam bans strikes at key industries

HANOI - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has issued a list of businesses at which workers are not allowed to strike, the government said Tuesday. The government said on its Web site that workers can't strike at enterprises that supply services or products vital to the public, such as at power stations, transmission grids, railway stations, key airports, post offices, forestry enterprises, telecommunications and irrigation facilities.

Vietnam doesn't publicize comprehensive data on its total number of strikes, but according to state media, there were more than 1,000 last year. The statement did not say whether workers would be prosecuted if they violated the strike ban.
