Vietnam Airlines, Airbus fund schools

HA NOI — Vietnam Airlines and Airbus on Tuesday jointly launched a US$618,000 community programme to support the renovation of schools nationwide and the construction of a clinic and phasmacy in the southern province of Tra Vinh. The eight schools set for renovation are in Thanh Hoa, Phu Tho, Son La, Quang Tri, Dak Lak, Binh Phuoc and Kien Giang provinces, while the new clinic is planned to be built in Tra Vinh.

Vice president of Airbus South East Asia, Thomas Friedberger, said the programme was a good way for the company to give a little back to Viet Nam. "We have been active in Viet Nam for many years, and now see this opportunity to improve educational facilities in the country as a tremendous way to give back to a country that has supported us so much," he said. "We are sure that the new facilities for students in Viet Nam will promote a better learning environment." Friedberger said he hoped the new clinic and dispensary in the southern province of Tra Vinh would help local residents "on the road to recovery".

Airbus began working with Vietnam Airlines in 1991. Currently, Vietnam Airlines operates a fleet of 10 A320s, nine A321s, two A330-200s and one A330-300 on domestic and regional flights.
