Belgium sees Vietnam as a potential partner

Belgium plans to invite Vietnam as a special participant to the Brussels international trade fair for manufacturers and buyers of upholstery fabrics scheduled for September 9-12. The Dutch-language Gazet van Antwerpen (Newspaper of Antwerp) said Belgian businesses could cooperate with Vietnamese partners in many fields since Vietnam was growing at 7.5 percent and had many small- and medium-sized enterprises and a young and dynamic population. It said further that Belgium was one of Vietnam's top 10 trade partners with 30 Belgian companies operating in Vietnam.

Belgium mainly imported footwear, garments, seafood, tea, and coffee from Vietnam, it said. Besides, the "Het Nieuwsblad/Het Volk" (The News Bulletin/The People) news network praised the close relationship between Vietnam and the northeastern province of Antwerp as a model of cooperation between Europe and Asia. Vietnam, an emerging economy in Asia, was expected to showcase its economic potential to visitors at the trade fair, the Belgian media said.
