Vietnam, Lao airlines ready for more int’l flights

Lao Airlines will launch direct flights between Luang Prabang and Hanoi this Sunday under a code-share agreement with Vietnam Airlines, an official the Lao carrier’s general manager in Vietnam has said. Phoutthasone Vannachack told the Saigon Times Daily Thursday that the carrier would use ATR-72 airplanes with each having a seating capacity of 70 passengers for the service on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Vannachack said the flights would depart from Hanoi on 3:20 pm and arrive in Luang Prabang – Laos’ most attractive tourist destination – in one hour. The single airfare is US$115 per person, excluding tax and surcharges. Vietnam Airlines will also operate ATR-72s for the flights departing from Hanoi at 4:55 p.m. on the other days of the week except Fridays as part of the national flag carrier’s plan to expand its presence in the sub-region of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Vannachack said Lao Airlines still focused on Hanoi as a springboard to further tap the potential of the route with Laos. The carrier now has three weekly flights between the capital city of Vietnam and Vientiane on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
