Vietnam supports Iran's access to peaceful nuclear technology

TEHRAN - Vietnamese Ambassador to Tehran Nguyen Van Hy said here Wednesday that his government fully backs Iran's access to peaceful nuclear technology. Speaking to reporters on the 20th anniversary of the reconstruction of Vietnam, he congratulated Iran on its recent nuclear achievement and said the peaceful use of nuclear technology is supported by other countries of the world.

He underlined that his country is against any type of weapons of mass destruction and nuclear bombs in particular. Vietnam calls for peaceful settlement of Iran's nuclear dossier, he said and underlined that war would leave negative consequences on any country. Given the damage inflicted on Vietnam during the devastating Vietnam war, he expressed the hope that Iran's case would be resolved through peaceful means.

Highlighting his country's economic and industrial development after 20 years of reconstruction, he said "We are determined to turn our country into an industrial one by 2020." About 80 percent of the Vietnamese people are farmers and the country has been quite successful in eradicating poverty nationwide, he said. Highlighting the current friendly relations between Iran and Vietnam, he said the value of Vietnam's exports to Iran stood at dlrs 80 million in 2005 while Iran's exports to the country were valued at dlrs 115 million. Underlining the need to further broaden relations between the two countries mainly in tourism sectors, he said Vietnam welcomes Iranian tourists enthusiastically.
