UK university to offer masters course for Vietnam filmmakers
Christ Church University plans to offer Vietnamese filmmakers the opportunity to pursue a master's degree in film production in Canterbury, England, a representative from the university said.
"We can prepare (existing and future) filmmakers, producers, directors and those working in the media industry with the skills and techniques to create movies that meet the needs of the nation," said Myco Doan, non-executive director of the university, before her visit to Vietnam this week.
Doan said the university is also offering scholarships to individuals who wish to pursue an MA in Film Production.
"The course is about cultivating creativity and imagination. It is also intensive and practical. The Masters course will help producers and directors acquire the skills and training to create world-class media productions that will achieve international standards and recognition," Doan said.
Doan is a member of the UK trade mission that includes representatives 16 other British organisations and companies from high technology product design to digital media training to entrepreneurial support services that will visit Vietnam between June 26 and 30.
With the new policy from the Ministry of Culture and Information that allows the establishment of private film studios, the Vietnamese film industry is preparing itself for rapid growth and positioning on the international scene, according to a press release from the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), the group that organised the mission.
The visit is now an annual fixture for the LCCI with the backing of UK Trade & Investment, the UK's export and inward investment promotion body.
Mission organiser Craig Pym, head of world trade for the LCCI, said: "Vietnam is an extremely important two-way market for UK companies and we recognise its growing importance on the world stage.
"The statistics show that Vietnam will be a major Asian force in the next few decades. We are delighted to be bringing new companies to Vietnam and helping companies with some experience to develop their business relations further."
