Vietnam commercial-cultural complex inaugurated in Germany

The Vietnam center for trade, investment, and tourism exchange (Viethaus) debuted Tuesday in Germany, aiming to boost trade and cultural activities between the two countries. The house, situated in Leipziger Strausse [central quarter of Berlin, the heart of Germany], was a joint venture between the Tan Son Nhat Airport Service Company, an affiliate of Vietnam Aviation Corporation, and the Germany-based HMSKY GmbH Company.

Covering an area of 4,500 square meters, the US$6.3 million complex is comprised of a trade-culture-tourism promotion section, a business center, a convention center, an office section, and a food and art center, said Nguyen Xuan Hung, chairman of Viethause board cum director of HMSKY company. Vietnamese companies seeking to penetrate German and European markets can operate their offices at the complex, or join forces with Viethaus to boost sales of their products in Germany, according to Hung. Hung also said the center would help promote the products tendered by Vietnamese companies in the German market or acts as an exclusive distribution agent for Vietnamese businesses in Germany.

Viethaus would offer 1,000sq.m for retail business and 600sq.m for warehouses as well as allocate 200sq.m for business, consulting, and brokerage and office services. Shedding light on Vietnamese culture is also one of Viethause’s focuses, with a vast range of programs featuring art performances, photo exhibitions and cultural exchanges.

Germany continues supporting Vietnam's modernisation process

German Ambassador to Vietnam Christian Ludwig Weber Lortsch has affirmed that his country will continue to support Vietnam's modernisation process as well as other areas of Germany's strength. Meeting with the press in Hanoi on October 2, Ambassador Weber Lortsch said that Germany, Vietnam were seeing fine development of bilateral relations. The two countries' trade value in the first half of this year increased 25% over the same period last year, with the highest growth rate recorded in the trade of leather shoes and coffee.

According to the diplomat, Vietnam Airlines' plan to conduct up to five flights to Germany a week as from October 29 reflects a growth in the exchange of visits for business, tourism and study between people of the two countries. Last week, Vietnam and Germany celebrated the 10th anniversary of their scientific co-operation. Over the past 10 years, Germany provided about 10 million EUR for 70 co-operation scientific projects.

The German Ambassador said that in the coming period, the German Ministry of Education and Research will open an office at the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology in order to co-ordinate bilateral activities in the area. In addition, in October, a commercial and investment bank of Germany will open a branch in Vietnam, and about 40 businesses from two German states will visit Vietnam to seek opportunities for co-operation.

Ambassador Weber Lortsch said that Vietnam and Germany have unique relationship. About 100,000 Vietnamese are living and studying in Germany and also about 100,000 Vietnamese have returned to serve the home country's development after study in Germany. He said "We always consider this as a potential, but the two countries have not fully tapped it yet. We want to take full use of the potential to develop education and training."

He stressed that the key to a fine future is education and training. "We attached importance to co-operation in education and training, including general and tertiary education, post-graduate study and vocational training," he noted. Around 2,500 Vietnamese students are studying in Germany, he added.
