Vietnam a bridge for Belgian business to Asia

Vietnam is viewed as a stepping stone for Belgian enterprises to tap into the Asian market, said a governor from the EU member country at a press conference in Ho Chi Minh City Monday. André Denys, provincial governor of East Franders made the statement after discussing infrastructure, agriculture-aquatic cultivation and cargo services at meetings the past few days between enterprises from Belgium and Vietnam. Belgium’s Denis-Plants company is set to ink an agreement with the Dalat City’s Flower Forest to produce grafted plants for export.

Representatives of the Jan De Nul Company, one of the world’s top dredging companies based in Belgium, have expressed interest in Vietnam’s sea port development. Three Belgian universities expect to develop training projects for shrimp breeders in the Cuu Long Delta region to reduce risks for breeding households and to build up international trademarks for shrimp cultivation. The governor also invited Vietnam to attend the Accenta Fair – a prestigious consumption product fair in the EU.

The Belgian delegation – composed of 30 businesses and three universities –is in Vietnam from the 19th to the end of this month, scouting for investment opportunities. The delegation is scheduled to meet with businesses in Hanoi, HCMC, Can Tho, Khanh Hoa and Dalat – Vietnam’s economic hubs.
