FPT Telecom gets go signal to resume ADSL services

Vietnam's FPT Telecom has resumed its high-speed Internet service after being 'cleared' by the Ministry of Post and Telematics. The country's second largest Internet provider FPT Internet was previously required to cease providing its ADSL service to new users in Ho Chi Minh City due to a discrepancy on licensing procedures.

Ho Chi Minh's Post and Telematics Department earlier said FPT Telecom has not fulfilled the procedures to gain a license to establish network infrastructure for ADSL in the city. The agency also cited that one of the reasons for the suspension of FPT's license is that 80% of the company is owned by individuals, while the law requires that 51% be owned by the state in order to get the license.

To resume the service, FPT was transformed into a joint stock company with 51% of its capital belonging to the state. The government has also granted FPT the license following this development.
