Vietnam coffee output may fall 18pc
SINGAPORE, Thurs: Coffee production in Vietnam, the world’s second-biggest grower of the beans, may fall about 18 per cent after a drought in the country’s main growing area damaged trees, Noble Group Ltd said.
Noble, the largest exporter of Vietnam’s coffee, expects output to reach about 779,000 tonnes from the harvest due to start in late October. That compares with 950,000 tonnes it estimates for 2004-2005, Jens Nielsen, head of Noble’s coffee division, said by phone from Ho Chi Minh City.
Vietnam is the world’s biggest supplier of the bitter-tasting Robusta variety, used by Nestle SA, Kraft Foods Inc and other makers of instant coffee.
