Vietnam's Vung Tau City to become economic hub
HANOI - Vietnam's Prime Minister Phan Van Khai has approved a project to further develop Vung Tau City in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau as an economic, cultural and public service hub by 2020.
The city, to be developed into a key economic region in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province and in the south, was also expected to boost tourism, facilitate maritime services, develop its harbour and exploit petroleum resources for the whole country. It would, according to the project, enhance environmental protection, and play an important role in the country's defence and security.
The city has been asked to give priority to various projects, including developing an urban centre, a suburb and the Chi Linh-Phuoc Thang residential area.
The urban centre has been designed with all infrastructure facilities such as roads, water supply and drain systems, markets, tourism square, trade centre, and public service works.
The Chi Linh-Phuoc Thang residential area, meanwhile, would have a residential complex, the Chi Linh Centre, Rach Ba and Bau Trung parks, and was planned to attract investors for the Dong Xuyen Industrial Zone.
The planned suburb would have roads linking Vung Tau City to the new administration centre of the province in Ba Ria Township, the Go Lang Bridge linking Phuoc Thang area to Go Gang Island, technical infrastructure for a seafood processing area, and residential apartments to benefit the fisher folk of Go Gang. A petrochemical refinery, to come up in Long Son Island, has also been planned under the project.
