Vietnamese goods expo opens in France

Nearly 30 Vietnamese businesses are displaying their products at Vietnam Expo 2005 in Paris, France from June 14 to 19 to promote investment, trade and tourism. Joining the exhibition are major Vietnamese products such as apparel by An Phuoc, footwear by Vina Footwear, furniture by Savimex, confectionary by Kinh Do and jewelry by PNJ.

The expo is an opportunity for Vietnamese businesses to establish ties with their partners from France, Europe and other countries, according to Vietnamese officials at a seminar held prior to the inauguration of the exhibition. More than 200 domestic and foreign businesses, including a number of French and foreign investors, attended the seminar. The event is also helping to introduce Vietnamese high quality products and investment opportunities to foreign partners as the country is on the path to integrating into the world economy and joining the World Trade Organization.

"As an active member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Vietnam has integrated its national economy into the regional economy," said Jean Courtiere, vice chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris (CCIP) at the seminar. The CCIP official described Vietnam's growing purchasing power, increasing attraction to investors and rapid developing private sector as factors behind the dynamism of its national economy. According to him, Vietnam's success is attributed to an abundant and cheap labor force and its rich natural resources, especially oil and gas. Vietnam's open-door policy, improved legal environment and overall political stability have also contributed to its high economic growth. Mr. Courtiere said he believed that the on-going administrative, banking and tax reforms would create favorable conditions for the signing of contracts between industrial and trade partners of the two countries.

A gala of Vietnamese art performance, gastronomy and fashion are also being held as part of Vietnam Expo 2005, which is an initiative of the Vietnamese Embassy in France. The event is sponsored by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, CCIP, Vietnam Airlines and a club of key Vietnamese businesses.
