Frenchman arrested while entering Vietnam with drugs
The foreign ministry said Thursday that a French man of Vietnamese origin was arrested on July 28 for trying to carry drugs into Vietnam.
The ministry’s spokesman, Le Dzung, said at a regular press briefing in Hanoi that Pham Van Chuong was apprehended at the Lao Bao bordergate in the central province of Quang Tri.
Chuong was carrying pharmaceutical products which were listed as narcotic substances and addictive drugs and banned from being imported into Vietnam according to the Criminal Code, he said.
Tests showed seven of the seized substances, weighing 411.8 grams, were on the list of narcotic substances and addictive drugs, Dzung said further.
Chuong was in the custody of the Quang Tri province police now and relevant agencies were investigating the case, he said.
The spokesman said the foreign ministry had informed the French embassy in Hanoi about the case.
