Vietnam Airlines carries more than 2.9 million passengers
HANOI - The national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines, conducted more than 23,800 flights in the first six months of this year, carrying more than 2.9 million passengers, including 1.3 million foreigners, a year-on-year rise of 25 percent.
The airlines also transported over 47,100 tonnes of cargo in the reviewed period.
Despite difficulties faced by the airline industry worldwide, Vietnam Airlines' business and trading operations have seen stable development and maintained growth both in domestic markets and abroad. It obtained a revenue of nearly 10,000 billion VND, equal to 52.4 percent of the yearly plan.
To develop its network of air routes, Vietnam Airlines signed contracts to buy 10 A321 airplanes from the Airbus Group and four Boeing B787's. It also opened direct air routes from Sai Gon to Chu Lai and from Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City to Germany's Frankfurt.
It is preparing to officially launch a fourth direct airlink from Ho Chi Minh City to Nagoya to attract more Japanese tourists to Viet Nam.
