Vietnam and Belgian look for boosted military co-operation

The Vietnamese and Belgian Chiefs of General Staff held talks in Hanoi on October 24 to clarify their viewpoints on developing armed forces in their respective countries. Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army Sen. Lieu. Gen. Phung Quang Thanh and his visiting Belgian counterpart Gen. August Van Daele discussed issues of common concern in order to enhance mutual understanding and co-operation between the two armies and the two peoples for peace, stability, development and prosperity in their respective regions and the world as a whole.

The host and guest expressed the hope that this visit would help cement co-operative ties between the two armies, and the fine relations between the two countries. Later the same day, the Belgian General paid a courtesy visit to Defence Minister Gen. Pham Van Tra. Gen. Daele has been here since October 22 for an official visit at the invitation of Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and Deputy Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh.
