Can Tho University has signed an agreement with nine foreign universities to send students for advanced studies. Under the US$48 million “Mekong 1000” program, which will run from now through 2010, the university will send 1,000 candidates holding Master’s degrees or above from the Mekong delta region to countries like the US, Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, and New Zealand for further study.

The students will be from streams like mechanical engineering, information technology, manufacturing, construction, chemistry, biotechnology, urban design, finance, commerce, and banking. The signing ceremony, held Thursday in commercial hub Can Tho city, was attended by Deputy Minister of Education and Training Tran Van Nhung and representatives from the 13 Mekong delta provinces.
