Vietnam reports over 4,000 child sexual abuse cases
HANOI - Vietnam has detected some 4,400 child sexual abuse cases over the past four years, according to local newspaper Labor on Tuesday. Of the victims, 9.5 percent are children under six years old, 40.5 percent aged between 6-13, and 50 percent in the age bracket of 13-16. Five percent of female sex workers are under 18 years old. The country also reported some 500 local women and children areannually trafficked to some neighboring countries, especially Cambodia, to work as prostitutes or slaves over the past decade. To cope with the situation, the country has conducted a programon preventing child sexual abuse and street children situation in the 2004-2010 period, which aims to reduce 15 percent of child sexual abuse cases each year.
