Vietnam's women's football squad books a place in semi-finals
HANOI - The women's football squad of Viet Nam recorded their second win, today, Sept. 7,
with a 5-0 victory over Singapore. The win ensures them a place in the semi-finals of the 21st Southeast
Asian Games.
Nguyen Thi Mai Lan opened the scoring in the 9th minute when she was able to capitalize on a pass from
Doan Thi Kim Chi. The second goal came three minutes later from Minh Nguyet, and Luu Ngoc Mai added a
third goal before the break. With a sudden long-distance shot, Mai scored her second goal in the 78th minute
of the match. Nguyen Thi Ha concluded the scoring for Viet Nam with a goal several minutes later.
In the first play with Indonesia on Sept. 5, the Vietnamese women scored six unanswered goals with Mai
contributing a hat-trick.
After two matches, the squad is yet to allow a goal, and with six points, standing first in Group B. The team
will play either Myanmar or Thailand from Group A in the semi-finals on Sept. 12.
