Vietnam eases film industry restrictions

Restrictions have been relaxed for film makers in Vietnam in an attempt to encourage the development of the industry in the communist nation. Under a decision taken by the Ministry of Culture and Information, private firms can now make movies independently without having to work through government- controlled companies.

The deputy director of the ministry's cinema department, Nguyen Thi Hong Ngat, says it is hoped the move will promote the development of the film industry in Vietnam. The ministry's decision also abolishes the pre-filming censorship of scripts but completed films will still have to face the censors prior to release.
