Vinabeco reorganizes to rise to the top
The State-run Vietnam Alcohol, Beer &
Beverage Corporation (Vinabeco) is bracing to
become one of Vietnam's leading groups by
restructuring itself under the parent/affiliate
model, said a corporation official.
Accordingly, Vinabeco will turn its affiliates,
including Saigon Beer, Hanoi Beer, Thanh Hoa
Beer, Hanoi Liquor and Binh Tay Liquor
companies, into one-member limited liability
companies in the 2003-05 period.
Hanoi and Saigon beer companies will take
over other local beer enterprises, and each will
build a new brewery with a combined capacity
of 200 million liters of beer per annum.
In the same period, Vinabeco will privatize the
Chuong Duong Beverage Company, the Hai
Phong Glass Company and the packaging and warehousing business of the the Binh Tay Liquor Company.
The corporation is also considering selling, leasing out or dissolving the Phu Tho Glass Company - which
has been running at a loss - if the company fails to move out of the downtown area of Phu Tho Town.
Vinabeco now has eight independent member companies, one affiliated enterprise, a research institute, six
affiliates joining hands with foreign partners in joint ventures and one fully domestic beer joint venture.
The corporation produced 313 million liters of beer last year, making up 40% of the domestic market. It also
tuned out 3.7 million liters of liquor and 38.2 million liters of other beverages in the year.
Vinabeco paid VND1.565 trillion ($102.96 million) of taxes to the State budget in 2001.
