Vietnam embassy in UK attacked
It's emerged that there's been an arson attack
on the Vietnamese embassy in London.
A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry in
Hanoi said a man was arrested by the British
authorities after he broke into the embassy
and started a fire on Thursday.
The blaze was apparently brought under
control before it could cause extensive
damage.
The statement blamed the attack on an
unnamed man who it described as an
anti-revolutionary Viet Kieu, or overseas
Vietnamese.
It said it regarded the incident as a serious
terrorist act, and called on the British
authorities to mount a full investigation, and to
punish the attacker and his associates. An
estimated three-million Vietnamese live
oversees, most of whom fled communist rule.
Many remain opposed to the Hanoi
government, but attacks of the kind reported
have been extremely rare.
