Singapore top foreign investor in Vietnam

HANOI - Singapore is the top foreign investor in Vietnam with more than US$6 billion of investment capital in 311 projects, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment. Other major investors are Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea. The total investment capital of these five countries and territories amounts to $23 billion, accounting for 53.7 percent of the total capital foreign investors have pledged to invest in Vietnam.

France, the British Virgin Islands, the United Kingdom, the United States and Russia are among the top 10 foreign investors in Vietnam. Foreign investment from Asian investors accounts for 62 percent of the total, including 22 percent from other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Meanwhile, investors from Europe, North America and Australia make up 36.5 percent of the total.

Countries and territories that have disbursed more than $1 billion include Japan ($3.28 billion), Singapore ($2.68 billion), Taiwan ($2.31 billion), South Korea ($2.13 billion), Hong Kong, Malaysia, the UK and the Netherlands. According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, 80 of the 500 world-leading multinational companies have invested in Vietnam, including Unilever, LG, Samsung, Coca-Cola and Nike.
