Vietnam's thermo power bot project still under negociation
HANOI - The build-operate-transfer project for the construction of a turbine-gas thermo-power plant in
Vietnam's Ba Ria - Vung Tau remains stalled despite a year of negotiations, said Nguyen Van Trung, the chief representative of
the Electricite de France group.
The group, comprising French Alstom Corp, Japanese Sumitomo and Tokyo Electricity Company, won the bid for the BOT
project in February 1999. It was the first BOT project to be open to international bidding.
Trung said his group has no difficulties in setting agreements with the Ministry of Industry or Vietnam Electricity Corporation.
But no solution has been found with Vietnam Petroleum Corporation regarding guaranteeing a steady supply of natural gas and
sponsoring credits for the group. He expects the Government to intervene on their behalf to resolve these issues.
