Vietnam executes 7 by firing squad
HANOI - Seven people convicted of crimes ranging from robbery to drug trafficking have been executed by
firing squads in Hanoi and southern Ho Chi Minh City, court officials said Wednesday.
The executions of four men, aged 24 to 35, in Ho Chi Minh City were the first there this year, an official said. The four were
convicted of robberies and other crimes in separate cases in 1999, he said.
In Hanoi, three men, aged 30 to 37, were executed last Thursday, a court official said. One man was convicted of murder and
sentenced to death last year, while the other two were convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to face a firing squad in
separate cases in 1999 and 2000, he said.
More than 100 people are executed by firing squads each year in Vietnam, most for crimes related to drugs, murder or robbery.
