Vietnam flight attendants under investigation over phone smuggling

Six Vietnam Airlines flight attendants have allegedly confessed to their involvement in a multi-million dollar mobile phone smuggling scandal. The six were reportedly among 23 employees questioned by police after another suspect accused them of smuggling thousands of handsets into Vietnam, on behalf of a private company, to avoid import taxes.

The flight attendants were allegedly paid for every handset they brought into the country. As part of the ongoing investigation into the scandal, police have arrested at least five airport customs officers in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, who are accused of taking bribes to turn a blind eye to the smuggling activities.
