Vietnam ISP picks Singtel as major Internet bandwith provider
SINGAPORE - SingTel announced that Vietnam Datacommunications Company
[VDC],
the largest Internet Service Provider [ISP] in Vietnam, has chosen
SingTel
Internet Exchange (STiX) as its major Internet bandwidth provider.
VDC, a subsidiary under VNPT, owns 65 per cent share of the subscriber
market. It uses SingTel's extensive IP backbone to enable high-speed
communications between Vietnam and Singapore and to offer Internet
connectivity to its customers.
SingTel said in a statement that it is providing VDC with a dedicated
link
between Vietnam and Singapore via the SEA-ME-WE 3 submarine cable.
STiX is the largest Internet exchange in the Asia Pacific, providing
Internet connectivity to more than 80 ISPs in over 30 countries in the
region.
VDC is using the increased bandwidth from SingTel to meet customers'
demand
for faster, more reliable Internet connections and to offer
international
data transport to business and consumer customers in Vietnam.
VDC announced last month that it plans to increase the traffic capacity
of
the country's Internet gateways from 50 Mbps to 135 Mbps by the end of
this
year.
