Vietnam's party central committee begins session

HANOI - The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee (CC) (ninth Congress) opened its sixth plenum inHanoi on Thursday morning. The plenum will discuss and decide a number of very important issues of both basic and urgent significance to the country as hasbeen clearly defined in the documents of the ninth national CPV Congress, according to the official Vietnam News Agency (VNA).

These include reviewing the implementation of the resolution adopted by the second plenum of the CPV Central Committee (eighth Congress), charting a new course for educational-training, scientific-technological development through 2010, and reviewing the implementation of three resolutions passed by the CPV CC on organizational and personnel issues: the resolution of the third plenum of the CPV CC (seventh Congress), and the resolutions adopted by the third and seventh plenums of the CPV CC (eighth Congress).

The plenum will also decide a number of orientations and measures to more effectively carry out resolutions of the CPV CC on the organizational and personnel work, give guiding opinions onthe composition of the Government (ninth tenure), prepare for high-ranking personnel of the State, the National Assembly and the Government in order to submit to the National Assembly, the VNA reported.

It will also consider numerous issues relating to the Party inspection and discipline work and hear reports on international affairs and other issues. ¡At the opening ceremony, General Secretary Nong Duc Manh delivered an important speech. Also presented to the Party Central Committee on the first day of the plenary session were the Political Bureau's reports on the implementation of the resolution of the Party Central Committee's second session on education-training and science-technology; and on the implementation of the organizational and personnel work in line with the three relevant Party Central Committee Resolutions, according to the VNA.

Party Central Committee members will continue meeting, discussing, and providing opinions to the above-mentioned reports,the VNA said.
