Two Vietnamese citizens receive France's top honour
HANOI - National Assembly member and former
president of the Vietnam Journalists' Association Phan
Quang yesterday became the third Vietnamese citizen
to be inducted into France's Legion of Honour.
The medal was conferred by president of the French
Senate Christian Poncelet to Quang for his great
contributions to relations between Vietnam and France
and to the Francophone community.
Phan Quang, in his various activities as Quang Tri
Province's Nation assembly delegate, long-time leader
of the Radio Voice of Vietnam, and president of the
Journalists' Association, was lauded at the ceremony
for actively supporting the proliferation of the French
language in Vietnam.
"It is not by accident that the French language has
found an honourable echo in Vietnam's mass media,"
said Poncelet at the medal ceremony at the French
embassy in Hanoi.
Poncelet emphasised that Quang has also
contributed greatly to the development of bilateral
relations in his role as president of the France-Vietnam
Parliamentary friendship Group.
The Legion of Honour, France's highest ceremonial
order, was set up Napoleon I to recognise those who
have made great military or civil contributions to the
development of the Republic of France.
