Vietnam to open Hue-Siem Reap air route
HANOI - Vietnam is scheduled to open a new air route next month linking its historic
tourist city of Hue with Cambodia's Siem Reap, the first international flight from Hue, a local government
official said on Thursday.
Le An Ninh, administration chief of the People's Committee in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue,
told Reuters the first flight to Siem Riep was scheduled for March 13. The service will not be regular yet
due to limited passenger numbers.
"Sixty eight people will be on the first flight from Hue to Siem Reap," Ninh said.
He said the Hue-Siem Reap route was part of a plan to connect ancient capital cities of Southeast Asian
nations by air, agreed by Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
Ninh said Vietnam Airlines would operate two round-trip flights from next month.
The old imperial city of Hue, in central Vietnam, is one of the country's most famous tourist attractions.
Siem Reap is home to Cambodia's ancient Angkor temple complex.
