Internet users to reach 4-5% by 2005
The prime minister has approved an Internet development programme in the 2001-2005 period
with the targets of 1.3-1.5 subscribers per 100 people (currently 0.25%) and 4-5% of population
using Internet so as to reach the regional rate by 2010.
Internet access will be linked to 50% of schools, 100% of hospitals at central level and 50% of
hospitals at provincial level and to all research institutes, colleges and universities and vocational
schools.
The programme will also provide Internet access to all administration agencies at provincial and
district levels.
The government will expand the equal competition among Internet services suppliers to have 3-5
Internet Exchange Points (IXP), 30-40 Internet Service Providers (ISP) and many Open Solution
Providers (OSP) in telecommunications.
