Vietnam team to study public services
Five officials from Vietnam are here to learn how public services are delivered.
The government officials are all from the Vietnamese Prime Minister's Research
Commission whose job it is to advise the Prime Minister, Mr Phan Van Khai.
During their six-day visit,
which ends on Saturday,
they will study the aims of
the Singapore Civil Service
and how it delivers services.
They will be briefed by their
host in Singapore, the
Institute of Southeast Asian
Studies (Iseas), and also
Singapore Immigration and
Registration, the Ministry of
Community Development
and Sports and the Civil
Service College.
They will also visit the
National Council of Social
Service and the Hospice
Care Association. The
Swedish International
Development Agency is
sponsoring the trip.
An Iseas statement yesterday said that it hoped to contribute to the Vietnamese
government's efforts to learn new ways of doing things from its neighbours, while
keeping certain useful practices that were rooted in the country's own culture.
Vietnam has been a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations since
1997.
After Singapore, the delegation will go to Taiwan for a week, to study how public
services are delivered there.
