Vietnam to seperate post and telecommunications services
HANOI - Vietnam plans to finish the process of separating its post and
telecommunications services by next year, said Director of Vietnam's
Post
Information Centre Bui Quoc Viet.
The two services have been under the management of the Vietnam Post and
Telecommunication Corporation with the cumbersome mechanism having led
to
the post sector's inefficient operation. Post services had made up just
five
percent of the corporation's gross revenue prior to October last year,
while
its workforce accounts for 49 percent of the corporation.
The move to separate the two services was launched in late 2001,bringing
about initial results as the post sector has managed to increase its
revenue
by between 13 and 25 percent of the gross earnings in the respective 10
pilot provinces, according to a Vietnam News Agency reports on Thursday.
Vietnam and Myanmar are the only two nations in the world stillusing one
corporation to provide both services.
