Diary Vietnam to hold tourism fair in France's Bressuire

HANOI - Vietnam is holding a cultural fair and exhibition in the French city of Bressuire as part of a new wave of promotion to the French tourist market. A pavilion has been set up on a 1,100sq.m site in the city, 450km south of Paris, offering visitors a glimpse of Vietnam's vibrant culture and scenic landscapes. During the five-day event, which wraps up on Tuesday, visitors can learn about famous tourist spots such as the ancient city of Hoi An, Ha Long Bay, and the The Huc Bridge that spans Hanoi's Hoan Kiem Lake.

They can also check out displays of Vietnamese handicrafts, including samples that showcase local artisans' skilful use of simple materials like bamboo and ceramics. Twenty Vietnamese tourism and trading businesses are taking part in the 53rd annual Bressuire Exhibition, where Vietnam is the honorary participant this year. The Vietnamese exhibition pavilion, together with numerous music, dance, and cultural activities being held around Bressuire, are expected to attract about 40,000 visitors.

The event has been co-organised by Vietnam Administration for Tourism (VNAT), and city authorities from Bressuire and Poitou-Charentes. VNAT deputy head Pham Tu told the press that this kind of activity was a key component of the national tourist action plan that targets France as an important market with growth potential. Meanwhile, VNAT is working with Saigon Tourist Corporation and Vietnam Airlines on plans for another tourist festival in the Japanese capital of Tokyo. The festival, set for the weekend of April 7-8, will give Japanese people a taste of Vietnamese culture. VNAT statistics show that about 150,000 Japanese and 100,000 French visitors come to Vietnam each year.
