Meeting marks 30th anniversary of Paris agreement

HANOI - The Foreign Ministry and the Party Central Committee's External Relations Commission held a meeting in Ha Noi on Friday to mark the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Paris Agreement puting an end to the war and restoring peace in Viet Nam (Jan. 27).

Opening the meeting, FM Nguyen Dy Nien said the signing of the Paris Agreement was an important event in the national struggle for liberation and reunification as well as Viet Nam's diplomacy. The Paris Agreement - an international legal document - was the outcome of the longest and most severe diplomatic struggle of the 50-year history of Viet Nam's revolutionary diplomacy in the Ho Chi Minh Time, he noted, adding the signing of the agreement made an important shift in favour of Viet Nam's revolution on the path to the Spring 1975 great victory that led to national reunification. The FM stressed that marking the event and reviewing the hard and glorious struggle in the past, the Vietnamese people feel more confident in the foreign policy and the leadership of the Party.

Vice President Truong My Hoa said the Paris Conference and the Paris Agreement occupied worthy role in Viet Nam's diplomacy. She spoke about the need to review and draw experiences from history for the present time and education of young generations, as well as to show respects and thanks to the older generations for their contributions. She said Viet Nam's diplomacy has the duty and capability to make worthy contributions to national development and defence.

On this occasion, the Foreign Ministry decided to present badges to 222 persons who had made great contributions to the diplomatic front at the Paris Conference.
