Vietnamese ISP launches prepaid internet access
HANOI - The Vietnam Data Communications Company (VDC), an Internet unit of Vietnamese
state-run telephone company Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Corporation, last
week unveiled its prepaid Net access service.
Vietnam's telecom regulator, the Department General of Posts and Telecommunications
(DGPT), approved the provision by ISPs of prepaid Internet services just last week.
VDC in August completed a technical trial of its "VNNcard" prepaid Internet service.
Subscribers register to receive account details, with the only charges paid for each usage
card and subsequent recharges.
VDC promises a 30 percent discount to those who pay in advance over standard account
charges. Subscribers recharge their accounts on the Web, at http://prepaid.vnn.vn , the
company said.
The DGPT, which strictly regulates Internet access services, has only authorized up to 30
percent discounts.
VDC offers pre-paid Internet cards with 4 card values: 100,000 dong ($6.65), 200,000
dong ($13.31), 300,000 dong ($19.96), and 500,000 dong ($33.27). The cards provide
Internet access for between 13 hours and 80 hours.
(Exchange Rate: $1 = 15,017 dong)
