155 suspects prosecuted for 24 charges in Nam Cam case

HANOI - The Supreme People's Procuracy on Monday gave indictments to 155 suspects implicated in the underworld Nam Cam gang, sources from the agency said, adding that the suspects were prosecuted for 24 charges.

Truong Van Cam (nickname Nam Cam) was charged with seven offences such as murder, assault, gambling, organising gambling, bribery, aiding and abetting criminals, and organising illegal emigration. Earlier, the investigators made a list of his self-declared property worth about 25 billion VND. About 100 suspects were prosecuted for organising gambling, gambling, and usury, according to the sources.

Ex-police senior Lt. colonel Duong Minh Ngoc, former head of the criminal police division of the Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City Police Department, was charged with bribery and abuse of power.

Ex-police lieutenant colonel Vo Quang Thang, former deputy secretary general of the editorial board of HCM city public security newspaper, was prosecuted on charges of abuse of power and abuse of power while on duty.

In connection with securing the release of Nam Cam in 1995, Tran Mai Hanh, former Director General of the Voice of Viet Nam Radio, was prosecuted on charges of bribery and disclosure of work secrets.

Pham Si Chien, former Deputy Director of the Supreme People's Procuracy, was charged with bribery, and Bui Quoc Huy, former Deputy Minister of Public Security, with irresponsibility causing serious consequences.

Tran Van Thuyet (nickname trader of Kings) was prosecuted on the charge of bribery, Nguyen Thap Nhat, former head of a division of the Ha Noi People's Procuracy, and Ton Vinh Dac, on the charge of abusing influence of powerful figures for personal interests.

Investigation into the case of Nguyen Minh Tuan, former investigator of the investigation police division of HCM City Police Department, was declared suspended by the Supreme People's Procuracy according to law. He was the only suspect who was declared free from prosecution in the coming first-instance trial, according to the sources.
