One million vietnamese log on the net
HANOI - According to the General Department of
Posts and Telecommunications (GDPT), Viet Nam has one million Internet
users and 175,000 subscribers.
Of the figure, the Viet Nam Data Communications Company (VCD),
under the Viet Nam Post and Telecommunications Corporation, accounts
for 56 percent, and the FPT, SaigonNet and NetNam for 31 percent, 7
percent, and 6 percent, respectively.
According to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) for
developing countries, there are less than six users per Internet
account. This figure is still lower than the regional and
international averages.
The GDPT recently reduced its telecoms circuit leasing and
connection charges to slash Internet access charges.
Besides, the GDPT has licensed 12 enterprises to provide Internet
access service and three enterprises to provide Internet connection
service to create conducive conditions for the development of the
Internet.
