Belgian newspaper highly appreciates Vietnam's efforts in hunger eradication and poverty reduction
HANOI - Most international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Viet Nam have highly
appreciated the country's efforts in hunger eradication and poverty reduction, said Belgium's "Le Soir"
newspaper in a report on Ha Noi in a recent issue.
The Director of the "Plan Viet Nam" NGO was quoted as saying that Viet Nam has limited adverse social
effects caused by economic upheaval.
Most of 600 NGOs operating in Viet Nam agreed that cooperation between the NGOs and the Vietnamese
authorities in hunger eradication and poverty reduction has recorded wonderful results.
Many of these organizations have sent a joint letter against the so-called "Viet Nam Human Rights Act" of
the U.S. House of Representatives. They said that Viet Nam has made considerable progress in human rights
and in its open-door policy and that the Act would only upset that process.
