France to assist in justice reform
HANOI - The French government will continue increasing its assistance to Vietnam in building a
law-governed state and reforming the justice system, the visiting French Justice Minister, Marylise
Lebranchu, has affirmed.
She made the remark while meeting with Truong Vinh Trong, secretary of the Communist Party of
Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC), director of the CPVCC's Commission for Home Affairs,
and permanent Director of the Steering Committee on Justice Reform, in Hanoi on February 27.
The French Justice Minister also stated that her government places great value on its friendship
and multi-faceted co-operation with Vietnam.
She expressed her joy at having the opportunity to revisit Vietnam and witness the country's
renovation achievements.
On his part, Secretary Trong expressed his pleasure at the growing co-operation between the two
countries.
He said he highly appreciated France's assistance to Vietnam in many fields, including legal
building and justice reform.
Deputy Prime Minister Cam made this request on February 27 while receiving French Minister of
Justice Marylise Lebranchu, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.
The deputy prime minister told his guest that he was pleased at the fine development of
Vietnam-France relations over the past years, citing positive political economic, cultural, scientific,
technological and judicial co-operation between the two countries.
He evaluated the efficiency of those projects and co-operation programmes between the two
countries that have been implemented through the Vietnam-France law house.
He asked France to continue helping Vietnam develop a legal system that will enable it to meet
requirements for integration into the world community and entry into the World Trade
Organisation (WTO).
"The French government will co-operate with Vietnam in personnel training, building and
completing legal system, and administrative reform," Minister Lebranchu assured her host. France
will also support and give technical assistance to Vietnam in order to help it join the WTO.
The French minister had earlier met with Vietnamese Justice Minister Nguyen Dinh Loc to discuss
the strengthening of judicial co-operation between the two countries.
