Vietnam tourism body proposes waiving entry visas for Japanese
HANOI - The Vietnam Tourism Administration has proposed to the government waiving
entry-visa requirements for tourists from Japan who stay in the country for 30 days or less, officials from the
government body said Monday.
The same exemption is to be proposed for French tourists, the officials said, without indicating when they
are to be approved.
Japanese tourists are said to be the biggest spenders among foreign tourists in Vietnam.
Last year, Vietnam was visited by some 152,000 Japanese tourists, and about 100,000 Japanese tourists
have already visited in the first six months of this year, according to the administration.
Entry-visa exemption has already been applied to Thai and Filipino tourists who visit for 30 days or less.
The move has helped double the number of tourists from Thailand and treble those from the Philippines, the
leading business periodical Dau Tu (Investment) said Monday.
